Vicious Rear Arm Grab Takedown

Dealing With Arm Grabs

There are many street fighting situations in which someone grabs your arm from behind. This is commonly seen in bar fights where a guy is pissed off, comes up behind you, grabs your arm to turn you around, and takes a swing. It is also very common in multiple attacker scenarios.

Usually, one guy will pick a fight with you while his buddy comes up behind you and grabs your arm to restrain you. This video shows you a simple and easy-to-master technique that will take out any attacker who tries to grab your arm from behind.

Breaking It Down

As you can see in the video, the groin strike is crucial to this move. Your attacker will expect you to fight his arm which is what most people instinctively do. Because of this he won’t have time to block his groin.

The key to the forearm strike to the base of the skull is to pivot and drop your body weight into it. Many times these two moves alone will take him to the ground, ending the street fight and giving you a chance to escape.

If he is still on his feet, grabbing his head and controlling him by hooking his eye socket is a powerful move. He will go where you want him to, especially since he will be off balance from your previous two attacks.

As shown in the video, turning his head while stepping backwards gets him completely off balance, letting you throw him to the ground. This will effectively end the street fight, or, in a multiple attacker situation, give you time to deal with the other guys. Depending on the situation, you may need to follow up with kicks and stomps to finish the job or you can just make your escape. It’s your choice.

  1. The info provided is excellent, simple and yet very effective. I go through the videos over and over – to let the moves become second nature to me.
    Thanks for this.

  2. Daaanng! That is great technique. So agile the assailant helps “you”. Quick, simple & effecient movements that show you mean business!

  3. Kathy is one heck of a fighter.I once saw a younger woman that looked a lot like her as an undercover police woman on Walker Texas Ranger that was a real good Martial Artist and was wondering if that was her??..Frank..

  4. Don’t forget his body reaction to that groin strike. Keep the head out of the way, as a body reaction of his head impacting your face is going to end your response, turning it into your own body reaction to a headbutt. Making a small step to the side instead of coming into a centered position (face to face) as you execute the pivot should work. Nice technique. Ed Parker “all defensive moves are the start of an offense.”

  5. This is great to know….
BUT watch out if you use this.
Know that if you use this and you really hurt the person. They may sue you. And win. Saying you did not need to do that. And they got hurt bad. And if you are there when the Cops come.
Say very little if anything Just give your name. And say I was in fear for my life. I want a Lawyer. The Cops are not on your side.
    Just saying..

  6. I’m showing this to my daughters. Thank you for these videos it’s a great help for young women and girls to know to not be submissive to take control. Huge help to self esteem, much better than the crap taught at their school and these demeaning music videos.

  7. Kathy long you are just super I think any men watching this demo will without a doubt will think twice because in the real world we need more Kathy longs ps think. Before you act it can be a very painful experience great job

  8. Nice move, but I’d like to see the moves on a double behind arm grab. I was grabbed that way when I was a kid. I didn’t know what to do so i got beat up prett bad by two older and bigger guys.

  9. Moves seem like a natural flowing progression. Moves that could seriously injure someone. *(I wonder how a policeman would respond, to someone grabbing their arm?).

  10. This is quite good and simple solution for a woman but if the woman has no training in martial arts it would be difficult to do. I think that every person these days do need to protect them selfs so yes is the right thing to do. Yours Sifu Brian Rushby

  11. Really neat – would love to try this one out. My wife is smallish, and when she gets agro I would hate to be the guy who messes with her (I have not shown her this yet). However, the comment below about the legalities of the consequences of this move is relevant (my wife is also a lawyer)… and I would imagine in the USA where litigation makes a lot of lawyers wealthy it is something that needs to be considered.

However, as I live in a violent society (South Africa) it means that my response is that it is better to nail the guy and ask questions later (think Oscar Pistorius…!)

And as an aside, perhaps the guys expressing surprise about Kathy’s skills should consider that they are subconsciously contributing to the presumptions and maybe even demeaning attitude towards women which make men think they are easy targets in the first place. I used to train with a small black belt woman who was also a ballerina – nobody messed with her, and she was a fantastic role model for young girls – qrace, beauty, suppleness, power, and a wicked head-high round house kick.

In Africa we say “strike a woman and you strike a rock”. Sorry – this got long!

  12. I ordered a few packages from Fight Fast, thought that it might make me feel a little more confident walking the street, wow, I was amazed at some of these technique’s shown here, some of this stuff (most of it)
is invaluable! Don’t wait this stuffs flying off of the shelves!
