Vicious Rear Arm Grab Takedown

Dealing With Arm Grabs

There are many street fighting situations in which someone grabs your arm from behind. This is commonly seen in bar fights where a guy is pissed off, comes up behind you, grabs your arm to turn you around, and takes a swing. It is also very common in multiple attacker scenarios.

Usually, one guy will pick a fight with you while his buddy comes up behind you and grabs your arm to restrain you. This video shows you a simple and easy-to-master technique that will take out any attacker who tries to grab your arm from behind.

It even comes with a video showing you exactly how to draw this folder from your pocket (one-handed) so that it snaps open and is ready for action in the blink of an eye. (Your buddies are going to be sooo freaked out when they see this).

Breaking It Down

As you can see in the video, the groin strike is crucial to this move. Your attacker will expect you to fight his arm which is what most people instinctively do. Because of this he won’t have time to block his groin.

The key to the forearm strike to the base of the skull is to pivot and drop your body weight into it. Many times these two moves alone will take him to the ground, ending the street fight and giving you a chance to escape.

If he is still on his feet, grabbing his head and controlling him by hooking his eye socket is a powerful move. He will go where you want him to, especially since he will be off balance from your previous two attacks.

As shown in the video, turning his head while stepping backwards gets him completely off balance, letting you throw him to the ground. This will effectively end the street fight, or, in a multiple attacker situation, give you time to deal with the other guys. Depending on the situation, you may need to follow up with kicks and stomps to finish the job or you can just make your escape. It’s your choice.

  1. Thanks for your videos. Being older, and considerably weaker than I once was, they give me the confidence to act if I ever need to. Hopefully, I will never need to use these great moves.

  2. very interesting moves, something both my wife and myself are practicing. thanks for the vid instructions.

  3. HI BOB.
I HAVENT FORGOTTEN YOU, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP IN THE PAST, AND ALSO A VERY FAIR DEAL AT ALL TIMES. NICE THROWING KNIVES. JUST WISH I COULD HAVE ORDERED THE TWO LARGER BLADES THAT YOU SOLD SOME TIME AGO, BUT UK IS A BIT FUNNY ABOUT BLADES SO THEY MAY NOT HAVE REACHED ME.I DO HAVE A 7 INCH RANDELL MADE FOR ME ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO. STAINLESS .01 SWEDISH CARBON STEEL, SAW TEETH ON THE BACK, WRIST THONG, BLACK MICARTA HANDLE WITH COMPASS, NEARLY TOO GOOD TO USE. ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND THE TEAM, THANKS, MIKE.

  4. Always impressed with your instructors, and i’ve learned alot from them. In the past I trained along side of Denise Taylor who fought Ms. Long on two occasions, and they were great fights. It is good to see Kathy in action.

  5. Excellent instruction…much like what we did in act and react drills in the kwoon. Our Chinese kung fu discipline was based on five animal style, but encouraged modern fight situation training. Thanks for one of the best videos I’ve seen.

  6. I loved the video and her comments made a lot of sense and explained beautifully the moves that happened so fast they were a blur of action. Very useful!!

  7. Very cool. People need to know that going toe-to-toe with an attacker is NOT the smartest way to survive. This technique is simple, easy to effect, fast and final. Walk away.

  8. Glad to see your back. Your videos are simply supurb and very effective. They are even workable for an old fart like me (75). I am a retired Police Officer with 35 years of law enforcement under my skinny-ass belt, so I can use all the tips I can study. Thanks again Sir!

  9. always interesting, wished I had followed this a long time ago. Really wish I could have had the chance to train with a group of professionals, still at 68 following the tactics is enlighting and gives you some knowledge, who knows whats coming your way.

  10. Thanks for remembering me. shortly after i bought that defense video set from you i herniated a disc and had to have surgery.
Since then I have not financially stable. Thanks for the video. It was informative, but you sent it to me before. You guys rock on the self-defense and i watch your videos everytime i get a chance. thanks Tony C. Smith Sr.

  11. Hi , I didn’t know if you were addressing me or my father. I’ve found your videos a good reminder for things I practiced early on because it was first of all, “Cool” and then to keep from getting hurt. And too; to make my father, the afore mentioned, proud.
I remember the first time he took me to LA based Karate schools ( I believed Mr. N owned them) and how impressed I was with the red faced 5 year old or so kid held his own against the adults in light contact.
It has saved my bacon repeatedly.
It was also my nemesis as many flash surprises out eyesight have resulted with friend and loved ones on the floor before I even saw them. ( their mischief, practical joking and spite in attempts to frighten me or take advantage. )
Even my 12 year old son in the pitch black tried to scare me once but something inside interviened and when the lights came on; he was pinned to the wall by his throat.
I was abused by others, not my father often when little and further.
I used this lesson when my two star athlete sons who went far in wrestling, played football and were enrled in classes of their own, wanted to go out and paint the town red. Is aid “No”. They pushed and I said okay fine; if you can get passed me.
“This time though, I’m not your father. I’m not going to hold back, so don’t you! They agreed.
Not five seconds and the were on the ground gasping. As they recovered I asked them what they had learned.
They replied not quite in unison, ” that you can kick our butt”…
I then told them that anyone and everyone , as is my belief can kick my butt now or later. I asked, ” so what does that mean for you?”
“That anyone can kick our butt.”
I told them they were right and that it didn’t include guns or knives. … They found something better to do that night.
I’ve tried to walk away from my training but my adrenaline has perfect memory. Tactfulness and a calm thought are now preferred as my age has leveled things somewhat.
I thank you for checking on me and or my father.
    Keep up the good work.

    Clyde,

  12. Hi Bob, I just wanted to let you know I am getting all of your great instructional videos and any and all merchandise that I’ve sent away for. I am a 49 year old disabled man that has served my country for 10 years. I recently lost my wife to multiple problems that slowly took her life over a 5 year period. I use to be extremely active in fitness, kick boxing, and taught some hand to hand to my 2 daughters to at least be able to fight off an attacker. Now that I am disabled and can’t fight and move like I use to, so I look for the quickest way out of conflict because of being an easy target for the bully or just someone looking for a fight so thank you for all the new techniques and fast take down instructions that I have been learning from your videos, and please keep them coming.

  13. Thanks, Bob, for contacting me. I want to keep up with these simple techniques. I sure don’t look to ever being involved in a street fight in our quiet little town, but nowadays one never knows. When I was employed at our hospital in the ’70s our Safety director gave Karate classes to the nurses and therapists (me). That was a long time ago and I am now long since retired but I remember the training. With a blind and crippled husband
I may be the “defense” in our home. Thanks again. M

  14. It is so good to learn so many great ways to take down am attacker. Thanks again for all this important information!

  15. Damn straight and Kathy nails it and a few other ah “items” or so it appears. This is a solid no nonsense move that resonates well with any person that has been grabbed in this fashion.Even if he grabbed her butt these moves could still be implemented so gropers beware!

  16. Kathy, look good, great job. What about reality, when it counts the most? I am a 68 yr young Vietnam Veteran,(NAVY),as we get up in age our bodies change, strength, brittle bones, reflexes, let face it how will a threat effect me.should I just pull out my piece, and call it a day? I would like to see your instructures when they are in there late sixties performing some of these drills. Bob, Thanks, for all of the fighting techniques. Take Care, Joe.

  17. Tough chick! If all women knew those kind of moves, they wouldn’t be intimidated by the ghetto scum perverts that harass and are threat of rape. The wanna be gangstas would have to go back to da hood alone!

  18. Wasted motion and energy knee to face after groin shot, two or three Times elbow to back of neck without having to even take a step.

  19. Thanks 4 your video. When I was a young woman this arm pull was done to me. Smart moves are a big help in this situation. Thanks again.

  20. Very slick move, hopefully, I’ll be ready for it,— Remember it. It, no doubt, depends on explosiveness, and a “KILL” attitude. Thanks M.K.S.

  21. Good stuff Kathy really enjoyed watching you , you make it look simple . Would like to see more. Thanks Mike

  22. She looked pretty athletic. Can the average woman or man do the same? I guess so with the Adrenalin flow.

  23. Nice flow, her style is like a pool game, setup, leave, setup. A hammer fist or chop might be better for the rear blow, focus is imprecise with that forearm, and face it, if you’re sloppy it might be the point of your wrist. Ow – if you havent practiced that. I would like to see this done with the same precision and grace from the other side. Most attackers that are premeditated dont grab left. I bet she has left a lot of surprised assholes wondering what just happened.

  24. After the strike to the back of the neck, I would knee him in the face before attempting the neck twist. That is of course if he is still on his feet. I want to inflict as much damage as possible before he hits the ground.

  25. Great move a date with her would be tough. I like to joke a little I am a small frame guy and I think I could take about any size brute down with that move and really hurt him if the situation ever arose that I would have to protect myself. Moves like these definitely puts you in the driver seat.

  26. Thanks so much Kathy. This looks completely doable. My daughter and I live in a high crime area and we will practice this maneuver until we feel confident we can carry it out.

  27. Holding a rank of 3rd degree Black Belt in Kempo, that would work well as long as it is done quickly and accurately. No hesitation. Using leg sweep as you turn the head brings then to the ground. Nice move Kathy. Did you take your training at James Woo San Soon?

  28. Thanks for video. Kung Foo San Soo under Larry Dusatko many years back. Someone close to me was Kajukenbo first generation under Adriano Emperado in Oahu years back. I like to see what actually works on the street. Then again, no rules, anything you are capable of doing works. Not who knows the most martial arts it’s the person who is clever and is dirtiest. But please don’t go to jail. Lol

  29. I took Judo from Rick Carter at the Pittsburgh YMCA while going to school…. this continuation has brought back all of those hands on instructions…. using your attackers clothing as well as body to keep them (your opponent) off balance during a skirmish… and you all know I’m a light, peaceful guy….

  30. Very useful information to keep in mind I think I will teach this to my daughters just incase thank you Donald Track
