Punishing Headbutt For Self-Defense

Inflict Serious Damage

The headbutt is one of the most damaging strikes you can use on an attacker in hand-to-hand combat. The crown of the head is extremely strong, and if used properly, you are putting your entire body weight into the blow. The result is crushing power that will easily break a nose, knock teeth loose, or fracture cheek bones.

World's Fastest Drawing Knife.

You wanna try out the fastest drawing knife on the planet? Good. Because here's your chance to get it for FREE.

It even comes with a video showing you exactly how to draw this folder from your pocket (one-handed) so that it snaps open and is ready for action in the blink of an eye. (Your buddies are going to be sooo freaked out when they see this).

Breaking It Down

The biggest thing to remember is to use the top of your head and not your forehead. Using the top of your head strengthens your blow and allows you to put your full body weight behind it. You are not slapping or whipping your forehead into your opponent, you are driving your head into his face.

The other key to this move is to grasp your attacker’s neck to pull his head into your blow. This not only makes the headbutt more powerful, but also allows you to maintain control of the attacker after the blow.

As you saw in the video, Paul Vunak’s assistant was pushed backward after the headbutt. If this were a real street fight the attacker would have had a chance to recover and continue fighting (although a really solid headbutt is more than enough to put them down most of the time).

Holding the back of his neck allows you to deliver powerful elbow strikes after the initial headbutt. Hitting him with a combination like this greatly increases your chances of success, and keeping him close prevents him from punching or kicking (the basic tools of most fighters).

CAUTION!

As you can see in the video, the only suitable protection for this kind of punishing blow is a full-face motorcycle helmet. Due to the devastating nature of this move it should only be used in situations where you are in serious fear of someone causing you harm. That being said, here are the basics of how to use a headbutt for self-defense.

  1. That would be devastating, a blow like that could end a fight real fast, and create a lot of damage to your attacker.

  2. Thanks for the demonstration as I always thought it was the forehead to your targets face. Needless to say I have not had to use this, but the demonstration of proper technique was very good. Doing it from the side was an eyeopener also!

  3. Guys you keep doing the same thing. Please try this technique with a woman who is out classed by a man a head taller or more than her and 100lbs. heavier and see how well it works. Of course guys can do this and women too if the guy is small but after a certain point, well just imagine. I say this at 5’8″,175lbs. with my record takedown of a man at 6’8″ 300lbs. It was easy. However teaching the women in my class to do the same thing? Not an option I could do honorably. Please consider showing some techniques the ladies can do with a greater disparagement in size.

  4. This is great information for me at least. I was once forced to head butt someone using my forehead but, I struck his nose. Yes, it did bleed a river but, even with that, I had a sore forehead. I’m a lot older now but, the world we live in today……you just never know when a crazy will attack. I appreciate this tidbit because it might just be the very thing that might save your keester. This Gentleman is well versed in the art of fighting. Thanks.

  5. Serious, if sloppy counts for bonus points as long as you can execute then hey Im voting for head butt as reaching a visable target, etc, HA. Thank’s again, Fight Fast. Appropriately named.

  6. I have found that contrary to the video the head butt is effective if you use the forehead slightly to the side, say top left as you stand at an oblique angle to your attacker swing your body anti clockwise across the plane of the attack striking your attacker on the bridge of the nose with your jaw slightly tucked into your chest. This has the advantage of being a single move and allows the same degree of follow up

  7. Thanks Bob & team
Wow that’s a much different technique for a head but than I’ve imagined.Ive got your details & will organise a money order for any DVD you thinks best. & in my budget.. I’m looking forward to feeling the new focused confidence to handle any situation in a positive manner.. I’ve also saved the message ..PROTECTING YOURSELF & YOUR FAMILY IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AS A MAN.. As my new phone screen saver.. Thanks again!!

  8. WOW!! A botched knee arthroscopy led to my needing a TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT. Consequently I have felt vulnerable & have stayed away from the fighting arts, but more than any other you’ve sent me, This video makes me feel I can protect myself. Thank you. The instructor is tremendous & his info is simple yet effective.

  9. This information explained a lot of uncertainty in the application of the head butt ! Unfortunetly I’m legally blind so it would be a last resort ! At least I know the proper way to smash a face . Thanks

  10. Really good stuff have used headbutt before but used forehead to nose . Fortunately it worked but was somewhat painful to me also . Thanks

  11. Paul Vunak is the real deal and his instructions and moves reflect that fact.I have seen others demonstrate the head butt but Paul`s version is superior and more practical for the street.

  12. Great info…as a trained martial artist of 17 years I welcome a new take on application and this is one of the best! Thank you!

  13. Mr. Pierce the construction of these self defense videos that you have made happen are priceless and amazing I would order your videos but I simply just don’t have the money not even the $7.95 deal you got I am living from check to check just to keep a roof over mine and my family’s head but I thank you for all the free videos you send please keep them coming.

  14. I guess, in a sense, “Using-your-head” to deliver a “Crushing blow”, DEAD-ON !!! M.K.S.

  15. Usually after a thrusting headbutt, many receivers tend to cover and double over as an initial body reaction from the sudden pain. Many times this is the proper time to initiate a driving knee, or to flee the situation if the option is there.

  16. Bob, I have Paul’s tapes, & quite a few of the other’s tapes from years ago. I wish they were on disk. Thank you, & keep up the good work.

  17. I did not realize effective the head butt really was until it was performed in front of me its just another weapon in the scheme of things great job Joe Liguori

  18. A good way to practice is on a 12 by 12 by 1/2 inch pine board. If you can break that board with your head, your headbutt will destroy all the bones between the chin and top of the head.

Paul Vunak always explains his techniques very well.

  19. I have a brother who is 6’6” three hundred something pj’s and an uncle who has to duck to go through a doorway. I think if you are being assaulted this may be feasible to give it your all and do what you can yet some of those big boys are like a rock and they can’t be moved and I’m not Bruce Lee… I am not knocking this video, head butting with follow ups are great but I think I would try to run even though I walk with a cane, or give him a rack in his jewels with my cane then follow up if it puts him off guard. My back is in bad shape and I used to scrap a lot when younger now one wrong move my back could put me to the ground. I had two surgeries last two level fusion and I have another disc that could put me on the ground if I’m not careful. I say if the guy is so big rack him in the nuts then head but him but all motions have to be fluent. Do what you can and improvise if you have to only if you have to. I have seen big boys even get racked in the jewels and they don’t move. It doesn’t make you less of a man if you run. One thing I have learned though is many big dudes aren’t expecting someone smaller to to them so you have to be clever and have the element of surprise and you have got to be fast I say.

  20. Nice video, I played soccer for many years and we were taught that the top of the forehead was the hardest part of the head and I have seen headbutts in games. They are very devastating because we strike with that part of our head. It’s quick like a King Cobra and destructive. We don’t have to grab the other person. If we did I would hate to see the damage done. But we did practice that at all of our practices. I know that if you miss with your headbutt and strike to high near the forehead you are in trouble. Your technique requires catching them off guard. So that you can direct their head. All I have to be is close to their face and they are In trouble. So there is another type headbutt technique for you to look at.

  21. This is the best explanation and demonstration of the of the head butt I’ve ever seen! I’ve always stayed away from it because I didn’t know what I was doing. Now I have something to train on Thanks Fight Fast !

  22. That Instructor is Bad Ass -WoW that is a Nasty Head Butt & Totally Effective , Unbelieveable ! Thank You Bob

  23. What I need is a robot mannequin. I can see where you’re defense moves could be very useful. But like so many other defense training requires repetition to become more confident with it. I think if one has to think it’s too late. But I still see where your training video would come in handy. Even though a person doesn’t go to the moves they could play the video over and over again and visualize what’s needed. kind of like Shadow Boxing.
