Effective and Painful Nose Bridge Technique

A Brutal Response

This is a very simple but painful self-defense move. Before I show it to you I want you to understand how this type of pressure point technique should be used. The key is that people move away from pressure points. When you apply pressure on a sensitive area the attacker will move in whatever direction is required to stop the pressure/pain.

This means you can control a person’s position with this technique. This is a great technique to use if you are caught off guard. It will give you that split second you need to take the offensive and put him the attacker on the defensive.

Breaking It Down

This technique relies on the sensitivity of the nose as described in the previous post. One unique advantage of using the nose as a self-defense target is the fact that pressing hard on the nose causes the eyes to water.

This is an involuntary response, so you should absolutely take advantage of it.

Making an attacker’s eyes water is not going to stop an assault but it can distract him giving you long enough to strike again or escape.

Taking the offensive and escaping are the keys to a successful self-defense strategy.

The Bigger They Are…

This is a great technique to have in your bag of tricks, especially against bigger guys whose arms would be difficult to manipulate in a joint lock etc. Everybody feels pain no matter how big a person is, so use that to your advantage.

Go ahead and practice it with a friend or sparring partner, get comfortable with it, and see that different variation you can come up with.

  1. Thanks so much for all these great self defense tips! It is so appreciated! You are saving lives! I am forwarding these to all the women I know.

  2. I am 73 years old . I had to stop a mild attack when I was 71.
I say mild because it involved a person pushing me. I made up my mind that if he pushed me a second time I would hit him, which I did on the chin this ended the situation.
Thanks to your lessons I feel confident I can end other situations that might occur.
    Thanks

  3. Brilliant. This goes to show there are always better methods than using fancy martial arts moves which will waist your time and your life. All it should take is a fist or a palm heel strike in the nose and your enemy will be easy to beat.

  4. Another great technical advantage, sure to use before any type of eye gouge or if with any luck can be proformed at the same time,
either way taking out an attackers abilities to see to either get away or finish the situation is the the best key to an aggressive situation that can not be talk to in calming the situation.

  5. The tips I have practiced from this site. Is the best tips you can get. They work, you do not telegraph your moves. For women, children and older people. These tips should be taught by dads to their families. Continue on fight fast. Keep up the good work. Thank you Steve

  6. Way cool! Glad to be able to see a garden variety of effective techniques from so many different sources on your page!

  7. Right-on, this is just the type of info needed by most people.

Most folks are not trained in unarmed self defense and need simple easy to perform moves to give them a method to counter an attack by a large, strong person. Thanks

  8. While a US Marine MP and a City Police Officer from the North Shore of Chicago, we were taught that while any Nose hold can be very effective, you also have to be very careful. For example, shoving a guys nose cardledge up into his Brain can be fatal. What’s you input on this?

  9. I am getting on in age and these techniques are very useful to make an attacker think twice before continuing
the confrontation it also gives you time to compose yourself and get away.
Thank you, they will only be used in the self defence of myself family and friends.

  10. Excellent Instructor Bob ! I’ve studied Pressure Points for 2 Years ; but always ready to learn MORE ! As the Instructor Indicated that his Opponent is to Large to put a Wrist or Arm Lock On ; Good Point ; Other Methods can be Applied ! Thank You Bob as Always – S. Biggs

  11. I AM 81 AND IN VERY GOOD SHAPE AND MARVEL AT YOUR INSTRUCTIONS. I FEEL THAT I COULD USE SEVERAL OF THEM IF NEESSARY. IN TODAY]S WORLD ONE NEVER KNOWS WHEN THIS MAY BE NEEDED. I HAVEN’T HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO FIGHT ANYONE SINCE GRADE SCHOOL AND HOPE I DON’T AGAIN BUT IT IS GOOD TO HAVE SOME OF YOUR KNOWLEDG. THANK YOU, I’M STILL LEARNING. BARRY SNOW THE SNOMAN NAME WAS MY NAVY CALL SIGN FOR MANY YEARS ON 7 DIFFERENT CARRIERS WHICH WAS SAFER THAN TODAYS WALK IN THE PARK.

  12. This is such a great technique I have been reminded of. Certainly I have been punched in the nose while boxing howeer I was able to recover and continue the battle. When a pressure point is applied as you directed us I see where the tear ducts create tears and obscures the opponents sight as well confuses his strategy of thought which confuses his process for seconds. This allows me to work on his balls or side of his head for a roundhouse knockout.
GREAT advice. Thank from a vulnerable but aware 68 year old male

    Hi Ralph
as an operator for many years and a martial arts instructor for almost 35 yrs – i can confidently tell you that is a myth – the cartlidge pulps and pushes into his eyelids and cheeks before it goes into his brain – the physical dimensions of sinusoidal cavitys etc etc make it impossible to kill someone that way – however it can cquse major hurt requiring some pretty intense surgery to fix if you do it – use the palm heel to the underneath of the nose with extreme and judicious caution..

  14. Hello all students and our teacher Bob,we have an obligation to do. The skills and technique, which was learned from Bob that teaches us self-defense should be applied when needed to save lives isn’t that the right thing for men to do ? Cause me from LIBERIA Bob videos and notes has given me weapons take down technique, big man take down in physical fight as we all know. so we say save the world with that great BOB TECHNIQUES you acquired for free. Regards to all student around the globe.

  15. Great tip, I am familiar with it though since I purchased Tony Walkers’ video at TRS some time ago in person at the Visalia office since I happened to be in the neighborhood!

  16. So this is why you really need those violent Self-Defence techniques. Every so often you look for a large black guy and shove your fingers up his nose. I suggest you practice long-distance running too.

  17. I have Tony Walker’s video, great stuff! I actually picked it up at your office in Visalia when I was running a job in that area many moons ago!

  18. If he’s faster? That depends, I like the blow that sends the bone into his head, although if you use too much force it can be fatal. However, yeah, a 150 lb. man can subdue a 220 lb. one. Whichever way you go, pinching his nose or hitting it will blur the guy’s eyes. Then either run or hit.

  19. I have used these techniques often as a police officer and for 16 years instructing young recruits and seasoned officers in the art of street survival. I got my start in the U.S.M.C. at the age of 17 years. I am now approaching 79 years of age with one hip replacement and one knee replacement. I retired from police work 28 years ago and have maintained the same weight for 28 years. I still walk with confidence and an attitude that exudes a reaction that old man is no one to mess with. One thing us old guys hav going for us is if attacked we must react quick and fight very dirty to win. I really enjoy your videos because they are old school and the technicians always effective. Best Wishes and may your talent and God keep you healthy and safe.

  20. The only problem with going for a targets nose is that the nose can bleed significantly, but not significantly enough to bleed the target out or out to a stagger. Some people go totally nuts if they see or taste blood. I believe that any strike that can cause bleeding should come with the warning “warning can drive the target loopy”. I like the nose as a target, but it is a stepping stone target on the way to total victory, not the sort of thing you hit and stand back and admire your handiwork. If you use a nose-lock or a nose strike, blood could well spray and you must then keep going before the target goes loopy. The other problem with blood is that it is a genuine bio-hazard. Always be careful with the blood of a target, not only will it leave a DNA evidence trail on your clothing and in your hair, but it can infect you with something very hard to explain to the wife and friends. I do like how simply Tony Walker explains the concept and I look forward to his past two.

  21. That was good! I have been hit on my nose in the past till its kind of crooked. Im trying to guard it better now.

  22. Great work Tony keep it up!,Thank you for sharing your knowledge.Very useful for all. Stay safe and prosper.

  23. Interesting. I always thought that the heel of your hand pushing the nose in an upward angle would be affective, buy this is way easier. Thank you.
