Vicious Rear Arm Grab Takedown

Dealing With Arm Grabs

There are many street fighting situations in which someone grabs your arm from behind. This is commonly seen in bar fights where a guy is pissed off, comes up behind you, grabs your arm to turn you around, and takes a swing. It is also very common in multiple attacker scenarios.

Usually, one guy will pick a fight with you while his buddy comes up behind you and grabs your arm to restrain you. This video shows you a simple and easy-to-master technique that will take out any attacker who tries to grab your arm from behind.

Breaking It Down

As you can see in the video, the groin strike is crucial to this move. Your attacker will expect you to fight his arm which is what most people instinctively do. Because of this he won’t have time to block his groin.

The key to the forearm strike to the base of the skull is to pivot and drop your body weight into it. Many times these two moves alone will take him to the ground, ending the street fight and giving you a chance to escape.

If he is still on his feet, grabbing his head and controlling him by hooking his eye socket is a powerful move. He will go where you want him to, especially since he will be off balance from your previous two attacks.

As shown in the video, turning his head while stepping backwards gets him completely off balance, letting you throw him to the ground. This will effectively end the street fight, or, in a multiple attacker situation, give you time to deal with the other guys. Depending on the situation, you may need to follow up with kicks and stomps to finish the job or you can just make your escape. It’s your choice.

  1. Nice move using his energy to end his attack, continue with full body moves circular flow to get maximum amount energy on target with minimal additional input of effort. Good use of body positioning and gravity to tap environment for additional power. I enjoyed the demonstration. thanks

  2. Another good one that will take some practice. After all that he won’t be able to do anything but lick his wounds.

  3. Disappointing video. Once again, she is just hitting some guy in the nutts. Seems thats all I ever see her do. Oh well. If it works….. right?

  4. That move sure builds my confidence. I still behave as a younger person, but w/the children getting taller, bigger, stronger,… I need all the edge I can absorb on the protecting of myself. By the way, I am an old schooler-63 on a soon(12/22/2017) birthday. Oh I almost forgot, she sure is beautiful… Michael Matthews/formerly a fighter in the ring(had a few rules.) We had to sign a waiver in case of injuries/death. All back before Elvis died. Thanks a lot, Michael from Atlanta.

  5. I would not try sneaking up on that lady if I were you, you might not live to regret it, she was very quick to react to his advancement on her. She should teach other women how to react to menaces like this, there are to many women assaulted, and knowing some of those moves could just save their lives.

  6. Just in case you did not know this move, I am going to tell you how to get out of a full nelson. where someone got behind you, put their arms under your arms, and clasped their hands and fingers together behind your neck, what you have to do is the following to get easily out of it.

    1) Put both of your hands firmly on top of the attackers hands, hold them tight.

    2) Drop down on one knee, still holding tight to your opponents hands.

    3) Swing him/her over the same shoulder on the side you decided to kneel down on, and away he/she goes, usually landing on his/her back, and that is going to hurt.

    4) Loose them only when they hit the deck, then stamp on any area you think will make him hurt long enough for you to go to safety.

  7. If the attacker grabs the victim’s left arm with his left hand the victim will spin away from his body. This video was set up to make the defense look too easy.

  8. I watched a few of the defense moves. I noticed that a lot of them left the defender wide open for a counter attack. Not to mention the possibility of the opponent knowing krav maga also. If the attacker isn’t aware of this knowledge, pain would be the least of his worries.

  9. Like the moves indicated, but is the hit to the back of the head really required, as the stance after the palm strike allows for the finishing manoeuvre to be followed through with efficiency also resulting in head trauma from being slammed to the ground.
Variants apply here, a knee to the face when the attacker is doubled over.
Training multiple variables from that fantastic initial palm strike can optimise alternatives in stance & attacker reactions, some dudes just drop when you make Pee-nut paste.

  10. It’s s great combination of go to moves. If victim makes contact with all three it put the biggest man down.

  11. VERY impressive technique. If I ever win the powerball, can I hire you as my personal bodyguard/driver? You would probably be the highest paid bodyguard/driver in the world.

  12. Kathy long is bad ass took a class with her when i was a kid in Bakersfield ca the bullies stop messing with me after that thank you Kathy

  13. This was an excellent, instructive video for a cross-grip arm grab from behind. If available, it would be nice to pair it with an alternative modification (direction of turn and initial strike) for the case of a same-side arm grip. It’s difficult to know immediately which grip is being used until you are being pulled around. Thank you, once again for sharing these great techniques.

  14. I can see the potential for this move to be utilized for many situations , not just arm grabs. I especially like the fact it is based upon real injury to the human body and kudos to her reaction partner. This has a universal application not only for arm grabs, but also training so that the very first thing that comes out of YOU is an injury and not just the reaction to an arm grab which can definitely turn a critical situation in your favor. Can be utilized in a pinch against multiple attackers.

  15. Thank you immensley for these fight teniques. I’m extremely confident walking around by myself and being able to defend myself or someone else. Ty
