How to Deliver A Punishing Horizontal Elbow Strike For Self Defense

Crush Your Attacker

Elbow techniques like the one we’re about to show you are incredibly devastating and easy to land because of the distance between you and your opponent. On top of this, they cause the most deep tissue damage when used in a very close quarters combat situation. With that said, let’s get right into it.

World's Fastest Drawing Knife.

You wanna try out the fastest drawing knife on the planet? Good. Because here's your chance to get it for FREE.

It even comes with a video showing you exactly how to draw this folder from your pocket (one-handed) so that it snaps open and is ready for action in the blink of an eye. (Your buddies are going to be sooo freaked out when they see this).

Understanding Elbow Strikes

As Glenn said in the video, elbow strikes are some of the most important tools in close range combat. That’s why it is crucial that you understand how to properly use them. The most important piece of information in this video is that you must get in close and grab ahold of your attacker before you throw an elbow strike.

Maintain The Offensive

If you don’t get in close and are lucky enough to still land the elbow strike, you will just end up with an even more pissed off attacker who is able to take the offensive. By holding your attacker you are able to maintain the offensive. This requires that you either continue to deliver elbow strikes as Glenn shows in the video, or you can move on to other strikes such as knee strikes or a headbutts.

By laying down a barrage of counter attacks when you are assaulted you will be able to disorient your attacker and prevent him from regaining the offensive. If you do this right, his primary goal will be to get away from you which is exactly what you want him to do (right after you cause him enough pain to make sure he doesn’t come back for more).

Proper Form

As for the actual elbow strike technique shown in this video, you want to make sure you are using the right part of your arm. You don’t want to use the tip of your elbow. The tip of the elbow will deliver a painful strike, but you risk damaging yourself. By striking your attacker with the boney surface just below the elbow joint you will be able to strike repeatedly without risking much damage to your own body (and it’s just as hard as the tip of the elbow).

Remember to keep your hand loose (making a fist will limit your freedom of motion) and your arm bent (like you are holding something in the crook of your arm).

Finally, the key to delivering an effective elbow strike in any self-defense situation is making sure you put your body weight behind it. This means using your core and your hips to deliver the strike. Your arm plays a small role in this move. Not doing so is kind of like trying to hit a home run without pivoting when you swing the bat, which is pretty much impossible. All your power comes from the pivot, so use it.

  1. I’m a senior citizen. Hope l never have to use this but knowledge is life. I’ll show my grankids n pratice with them. You never know when this will pay off. I tell them sometimes knowledge is better than money in the bank. Thank you.

  2. Great vid, have used this technique numerous times and really effective and since I am only 5’08”, it has really helped me with bigger antagonists! Thanks!

  3. Elbows are king! I naturally throw strikes with my elbows and forearms which I found out when sparring. No matter how much I practice straight shots under stress I always use swinging shots as they are more natural.

  4. Once he is under control you can close your fist Punch elbow and then back elbow fist and then again and again so it’s finished elbow and then back elbow finished across across across

  5. VERY informative as I wasn’t aware that a piece of your opponent should be held first-the reason duly explained in the video-whereas I would have hit him and then would have to begin all over again but my opponent would be expecting it and take defensive measures perhaps making my efforts in vain – so grabbing him first before the first blow is ALL important and to NOT LET GO of him….thank you for clarifying this, it is MOST important and is probably the most important aspect of delivering an elbow hit on your opponent – it’s what makes it WORK. Very much appreciated and these short videos are a GREAT IDEA….refreshes one’s mind and helps to keep it there for when it is required in the field.

  6. Bob Excellent Instructor ! Amazing Results against Attacker , this demonstration is Easy to Follow Thank You So- Much S. Biggs PS WICKED !!! , Reminds Me of the Head Butt Instructor , that is WICKED as Well !

  7. A really useful and effective method of dealing with an attacker…I wish I had known about this manuever some years ago! It would have ended an attack much sooner I figure!
The video clips are great and extremely informative – keep ’em coming…and thank you!

  8. its great the way you teach everyone how to do these moves, but i learned all of this when i was a Devildog in the U.S.M.C. but that was in the late 60s. but i could watch it over and over all day long. THANKS!!

  9. Great move can really stop an attacker in his tracks so one could get the upper hand just with these moves thanks

  10. i’d like to see this but as if opponent has a knife or weapon to knock out of his hands…also what if he is taller, maybe something else would be better? thanks

  11. The self defense you show is good. What self defense do you have for a guy 5’7″ 165# against some one that’s 6’1″ and weighs 265#.

  12. Very nice to learn these tactics. TO keep in your arsenal. WITH practice you can be a forcertain to be reconNed with.

  13. Tall guys always without fail punch downward on short targets, the grab or the catch with arm hook that may have missed connecting BUT still is useful, the uppercut is so underused and underrated … trapping a punch or grab the getting in that powerful upper delivery stops most attacks in a daze … now either get away (always good if weapons involved) or go for the blood.

  14. This is very impressive. My problem is, it won’t work very good from a wheel chair or my scooter. I have to rely on my knives or pistol. I keep watching though cause I can catch some moves that can help. At 72 it gets pretty limited. Keep up the good work.

  15. Very devastating blow that stops people in there tracks. Used in martial arts with in UFC with very dramatic effects. Probably should be banned because of damage that can be done. Best used on thugs trying to mess you up.

  16. I always reckoned elbows were a good move for the ladies when a threatening character got too close.

  17. One of my favourite moves. Works well on the solar plexes too, particularly if ones opponent is taller.
    Cheers

  18. No one is going to stand there and let you come in close and grab them. They will be popping you in the head as they deflect your attempt to grab.

  19. Great stuff. I’ve been teaching my kids the importance of being able to defend oneself in tight quarters. The elbow strike is great when you can’t back up also. Thanks.

  20. Good stuff, with the element of surprise…..this works..?
Otherwise….it could backfire if he is ready and counters…

  21. Being a former student of muay Thai, I can say whole heartedly that elbow strikes,(if done properly) are a devastating technique to add to your self defence arsenal. Elbows can connect like a bat or cut like a knife. It’s a good idea to run through all the angles and get into the habit of stepping forward while throwing an elbow, making sure you get as much bodyweight behind it as possible.

  22. The elbow is a very efficient weapon, but like anything else you need to practice.Don’t just warehouse the video’s and think your ready ! It is sorta like the military, techniques the military wants you to learn how to automatically use a method you will practice, practice, practice and then practice more, until it becomes automatic.I am 67 year’s old and I would not be afraid to take on 2-25 year old men that are merely street thugs, that have had no training in self defense. I have found over year’s of experience, if you see you are in a situation that your not going to be able to get away from peacefully and you and your family is in danger, you must strike first, rapid, furious and get them down and keep them down.My Dad and his brother’s where all in WW2 and my Dad was a Ranger, they were 4 of the toughest men I ever knew and of course they would not be satisfied until all the boy’s and some of the girl’s, we’re tough enough to satisfy them and it really prepared us for many of life’s challenges.

  23. To Tom Lewis, you are wrong my friend. If you will practice this method and if you are fast enough and get in the first blow with the elbow, it is going to take alot out of your attacker and then quickly assess the situation and decide if he still presents a problem, you keep him down !

  24. I think the gig secret is to keep on hitting. I’m a small guy and I learned a long time ado to get the first hit in and don’t let up. I got tired of getting my ass kicked till I figured that out. It seems that a small guy is always getting picked on.

  25. I like the video because the elbows are very effective weapons when it comes down to using a combos say a fist and grab followed by elbow strikesare very effective. Thank you for another good
    Video.

  26. The elbo is extremely effective in close quarters combat.i have use my elbow’s
A couple of time’s in the past I like to use a short punch to get me in close enough for my elbow to strike the side of the jaw or conect with the throat fights over before it has a chance to go anyfarther

  27. This all will work if your opponent doesn’t get any “blocks” in at first to keep any contact from taking place.

  28. Thank you ? for your classes. They are Easey to pick up on.even if you have no previous training
