Sneaky and Devastating Self Defense Takedown

The Art of Deception

The key to this self-defense move is having the element of surprise. You obviously can’t just walk up and do this to a guy who is threatening you. You have to deceive or distract him so you can get in close for this devastating takedown. The best distraction in this scenario is to make the attacker think you are being submissive. This is obviously a great tool if you are a woman, but it works well for men too.

The Setup:

  1. Deceive Your Attacker: Taking a submissive body position (a slightly slouched posture, avoiding eye contact, a weak soft voice) will allow you to get into the takedown zone without your attacker knowing what you are up to.
  2. Get In Close: Once you are up close you have the advantage in the situation. Bullies, predators, and attackers are most familiar with fighting in punching range. Successfully deceiving your attacker allows you to move into a position where you are too close for punches to be effective at all.
  3. Strike Their Groin: Once you have closed the gap, strike their groin and throat simultaneously. For the groin strike you need to use an upward-facing open-hand palm. When you strike you need to grab whatever you can. If you can’t grab their groin, grab the inseam of their pants because you need a handle.
  4. Pinch Their Windpipe: As you are striking their groin, grab their throat with a c-hand. If you strike with a closed hand they will move backwards too quickly and you won’t be able to grab hold of their windpipe. Once you strike their throat you need to dig your thumb into the space just behind their windpipe and use the rest of your fingers to tightly grasp the other side of their throat.

Following Up

At this point you have two very effective handles and the attacker isn’t going anywhere without causing himself a LOT of pain, but to make this self-defense technique effective you can’t just hang onto him, you have to put him on the ground.

Luckily for you, having two very effective handles is a good position to be in. However, it prevents you from escaping, and since you aren’t a cop, detaining this guy is not high on your list of things to do.

The goal of any good self-defense technique is to allow you to escape to safety. This requires you to use the handles you have to put him on the ground, giving you a chance to finish the job and escape.

The Takedown

  1. Sweep Their Legs: To put the attacker on the ground, simply use one of your legs to sweep one of his out from beneath him.
  2. Inflict Maxmium Pain: As you are sweeping their legs out from beneath them, pull up on their groin and push them away from you with the hand you have on their throat.
  3. Release Your Grip: At this point you will need to release your grip on their windpipe. This is especially important while you are practicing. If you don’t release the windpipe this could become a termination move.
  4. Fight or Flight: Once your attacker is on the ground, you must decide to either immediately escape to safety or to follow this self-defense take-down up with some kicks (only if it is necessary for your safety).

DISCLAIMER

Any move where you are grasping the windpipe can be dangerous. As you can see in the video, Kathy completely releases her training partner’s throat as she sweeps his foot to avoid any serious (and potentially fatal) injuries.

  1. With the way the economy is headed, and with Obamacare hot on it’s heels, there’s no telling just when or how things are going to collapse. About the only sure thing is that they WILL collapse. And when it happens, most folks are going to be caught flatfooted as hell, with no idea of what they’re going to need to do to survive. If we are going to be able to protect ourselves and our families, we’ll need to know stuff like this, to keep us safe. Thanks for the instruction, it was very helpful.

  2. Looks easy. I am a size 8 old (72) lady with arthritis in my hands. Not sure I could do the move with the grip. Impressive though.

  3. Corky Rowe said it all. Appreciate this video and forwarding it to all on my mailing list. Hope none of us will have to use it; but sure glad I now know what to do in case I ever need to defend myself. I’m 78, and when my husband died a little over a year ago I thought a about buying a gun; but my son said “Mother, you’d probably shoot
yourself in the foot”. At the time, he persuaded me to buy one of the bracelets (you
know, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”).

Wished I had bought the gun instead (hindsight is 20/20); but knowing these maneuvers should do the trick.

    Thanks SO much for sharing.

  4. ”NICE” REALLY, REALLY ”NICE”. THANKS FOR SHARING, THIS SHOWS ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY THAT SIZE [DUZZ] NOT MATTER…. :} I SHOWED THIS TO MY DAUGHTER,AND HER AWARENESS, CONFIDENCE WENT UP!!!

  5. Bob, Thanks for all the Lessons, especially this one. I am hoping to teach my Daughters and Granddaughter these for their self protection. Thanks for a great program.

  6. Quick slick move,
a shy monkey turns into a silver back
    gorilla
    I win!
Bad guy wonders what just happened
Slithers away like a slug (thug)

  7. Thank you for this FREE exercise as I will be 80 this year and am 5-2. I can tell by her arms she works out and she is very adjial so she also does tumbling. I used to love that stuff and that may be why (as a teen) I instintly grabbed a guy that had grabbed another girl by her shoulders as she crossed the street between parked cars.

  8. Every video Ive ever seen that girl in she’s always grabbing the guys junk. Doesnt she know anything else? If the attacker were to block her hand she’d probably be dead in the water.

  9. I am 65+. I am MMA student. Krav Maga mostly! Some cane-fu!! All your info is great!! My 11yr. Old grandgirl. Knows some of these moves!! Keeps the bully’s away at school!! I pray I never have to use what I know, but I train to be ready in case!! May GOD help all who are sheepdogs protecting the sheep!!!!

  10. Once again, Thanks for a great video lesson. I love the simplicity of the presentation. There are enough repeats and change of view to present the lesson clearly so even the old and infirm like me can grasp the concept. My daughters and their kids are learning these moves as well. So your freebies are greatly appreciated. I wish I could send for some of your advertised lessons, but with everything going up except Social Security, it is difficult just to buy groceries any more, let alone extras like what you are offering. I can’t complain about the value of your offers, only the fact that Obama’s economy is draining us dry, leaving no extra money for much of anything. Please keep the freebies coming as they are all I can afford. Thanks for what you do.

  11. Thanks for the free video lesson,Kathy. I sure wish I could take some lessons from you. This is a slick and devastating move. I appreciate these freebees. I owe you.

  12. It has been my personal experience that once I had an individuals wind pipe in my grasp, the fight went right out of them, replased by fear of terror. I love this take down method, which is clearly effective& & leaves the would be attacker at the mercy of their intended victim. There won’t be any mats or padding on the floor when they go down, which may give them a nice rap on the head. A good kick or two once they’re down is a real good idea. Done right and in the right spot, such as the solar plexus, it will prevent them getting up to soon as you attempt to escape. The would be attacker is going to have a sore organ or two, perhaps a sore throat, a concusion from his head bouncing on the cement, & a sore gut from the kick, he may be laid up the rest of the week. He may consider changing his lifestyle. If he doesn’t change, & the next person he attacks does it to him all over again, he just may finally decide his way of life is just not for him any more. Once would be plenty enough to teach me better, but then I have a brain in my head, I cannot say any attacker has one, or much of one anyway.Love the lessons, keep ’em coming. I am sharing them with my wife, & she is really learning how to defend herself very well.I’m relearning a great deal & learn some new things too. I couldn’t be more pleased with anything than I’m with your lessons. For my wife & myself, thank you. We look forward to the next email & lesson. SEMPER FI!!!

  13. Great move Kathy !
I have met Kathy a couple of times in the past as she was working out
at our studio from time to time. Nice lady and a great martial artist!

  14. To Janet Hemingwa : A strike to or even a push on the windpipe will cause a great deal of pain. A very simple and effective lesson. Thanks, Bob

  15. I have 45 Years of Mixed Martial Arts Training and today I bow to you in honour. I have become the student and you have become the teacher.
    Thank you for humbling me.
Peace be with you in your journey of life.

    Sincerely,
    A humbled friend.

  16. Thank you, Ms. Long! These free lessons are saving lives. Love the simple, street fight techniques because a threat from the street will be what most of us face. Would love to see what to do when we are knocked to the ground by some neanderthal. Thanks so much for the free lessons. These tips will help get women and girls out of life threatening situations.

  17. I feel sorry for Kathy’s sparring partner in the video.
I cringed watching her slow motion blow to the crotch
and crushing grab to the windpipe.
Might be difficult to find volunteers to help perfect this move.
    Count me out.

  18. Ciao Bob. Like Paul S. above, I really appreciate these free lessons and wish I could afford
to buy even one of your DVDs. Getting by on a fixed income is becoming more challenging. All the luxuries like rent, food, gasoline, insurance, these can’t be ignored. The one thing we can do is pray for your continued success which I do.

  19. I’m not a martial arts trained person but it seems that trying to strike two areas simultaneously is not only “iffy”, you can’t strike with as much force or follow through as you could with a 1-2 strike. Also, if you are going to strike someone in the throat you must be in a situation where your life or safety is at stake. That being the case, why not just hang on to the throat all the way down and drive your body weight into it as he strikes the ground? Even a light person could generate significant throat crushing pounds per square inch force on the throat area. Fight over.

  20. Very effective as it causes him to defend two different targets at the same time. It leaves you more margin for error! Also, if you push the target hard at the top while you are pulling the bottom, you can drive his head into the concrete!

  21. Thank you so much! -For generously sending these small clips, FREE of charge(!!)- from time to time. It is very much appreciated, and as a result, I am always opening YOUR Emails well ahead of most others in my ‘over-full’ InBox!! – If I ever get a Financial ‘windfall’, then you are one of the very fist Organisations whom I will be making a generous and very grateful donation-to!! 🙂 – Thanks again! – & Please keep-up all your very helpful, good work! (Often-times, I just simply cannot afford to purchase it!) – But keep it coming…and maybe things may improve one day! –
Cheers! – Jen. (PS: I send the ‘safer’ ones on to some of my Family, too!)- Thanks! -Jen.

  22. Beautiful, Ms. Long. Women don’t know they can strike first!! Thank you for the life saving tips. Seeing a woman perform these moves gives other females confidence and permission to hurt an attacker! Most women are trained to be submissive from birth! Females need to be trained in the public school system. There will be a huge kick back from men as many are cowards and love to dominate and take their aggression out on defenseless females. They don’t have the balls to take on a male. All the more reason to train females to injure, or worse if need be, an attacker of any gender. Thank you,
    Sunny

  23. What a great training video. I really liked that she stopped & explained each move & why. I also like that she was a small woman like me.

    Thank you very much.

  24. THIS VIDEO IS EXCELLENT. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I WILL TEACH MY GRANDCHILDREN.EXCELLENT TRAINING VIDEO – THANK YOU!

  25. I really like this form of surprise self-defense. I can see this totally working.
Thank you for the video. T.

  26. being a 44 year old man I have no interest in grabbing a mans jewels but the throat grab I have used on a younger man that jumped on my back going for the rear naked choke needless to say he eventually got up and left the field(literally) of battle looking like a carpenters square , bent in a 90 degree angle holding his throat but it is great to see these videos to show our young’uns to keep them safe from the predatory beasts being brought up these days
