Sneaky and Devastating Self Defense Takedown
The Art of Deception
The key to this self-defense move is having the element of surprise. You obviously can’t just walk up and do this to a guy who is threatening you. You have to deceive or distract him so you can get in close for this devastating takedown. The best distraction in this scenario is to make the attacker think you are being submissive. This is obviously a great tool if you are a woman, but it works well for men too.
The Setup:

- Deceive Your Attacker: Taking a submissive body position (a slightly slouched posture, avoiding eye contact, a weak soft voice) will allow you to get into the takedown zone without your attacker knowing what you are up to.
- Get In Close: Once you are up close you have the advantage in the situation. Bullies, predators, and attackers are most familiar with fighting in punching range. Successfully deceiving your attacker allows you to move into a position where you are too close for punches to be effective at all.
- Strike Their Groin: Once you have closed the gap, strike their groin and throat simultaneously. For the groin strike you need to use an upward-facing open-hand palm. When you strike you need to grab whatever you can. If you can’t grab their groin, grab the inseam of their pants because you need a handle.
- Pinch Their Windpipe: As you are striking their groin, grab their throat with a c-hand. If you strike with a closed hand they will move backwards too quickly and you won’t be able to grab hold of their windpipe. Once you strike their throat you need to dig your thumb into the space just behind their windpipe and use the rest of your fingers to tightly grasp the other side of their throat.
Following Up
At this point you have two very effective handles and the attacker isn’t going anywhere without causing himself a LOT of pain, but to make this self-defense technique effective you can’t just hang onto him, you have to put him on the ground.
Luckily for you, having two very effective handles is a good position to be in. However, it prevents you from escaping, and since you aren’t a cop, detaining this guy is not high on your list of things to do.
The goal of any good self-defense technique is to allow you to escape to safety. This requires you to use the handles you have to put him on the ground, giving you a chance to finish the job and escape.
World's Fastest Drawing Knife.
You wanna try out the fastest drawing knife on the planet? Good. Because here's your chance to get it for FREE.
It even comes with a video showing you exactly how to draw this folder from your pocket (one-handed) so that it snaps open and is ready for action in the blink of an eye. (Your buddies are going to be sooo freaked out when they see this).
The Takedown

- Sweep Their Legs: To put the attacker on the ground, simply use one of your legs to sweep one of his out from beneath him.
- Inflict Maxmium Pain: As you are sweeping their legs out from beneath them, pull up on their groin and push them away from you with the hand you have on their throat.
- Release Your Grip: At this point you will need to release your grip on their windpipe. This is especially important while you are practicing. If you don’t release the windpipe this could become a termination move.
- Fight or Flight: Once your attacker is on the ground, you must decide to either immediately escape to safety or to follow this self-defense take-down up with some kicks (only if it is necessary for your safety).
DISCLAIMER
Any move where you are grasping the windpipe can be dangerous. As you can see in the video, Kathy completely releases her training partner’s throat as she sweeps his foot to avoid any serious (and potentially fatal) injuries.

U can tell this young lady means business hope our paths never cross in a negative way. Love the way she uses true force even on her helpers
Excellent Techique by Kathy, she makes it look Easy; Fast & Effective Movements -Thank You Bob
Very good. I like that. Wish I’d have had it in my arsenal a few weeks ago. I’m 63 and would have used it on a much younger aggressor had I known it. I’ll be ready next time.
Looks like a devastating move.
the throat grab has always been one of my favorite go to moves right off I always say if you can’t breath you can’t fight , but I like the additional groin grab that pretty well finishes a guy off !! takes the fight right out of him!!
Cdr Cohen,
I think that choke is actually called a “Ranger Choke”!
She is very good at what she does. And she’s hot to . Not a woman to mess with at all. Look out bad guys.
Very impressive move. They won’t be getting up for some time. I like the two moves at the same time along with the element of surprise. Awesome for a man of my age, 65.
This is a simple and effective way to defend yourself. I think the key for most women will practicing enough to take all hesitation out of the moves.
Great takedown maneuver.
WOW ! This is another good move but really when I saw the video blog message I knew it would be good. They usually are. I do believe if someone were approaching me I could use this as well to stop their advance. Thank you for another table turner.
Awesome
Good takedown, wife was watching and she liked the procedure .
excellent-look for your videos daily
very good, easy to use take down for an average woman like myself.
That is a very good video. looking down and not making eye contact will cause the attacker to relax. Keep up the good work Kathy. I have been in a few fights and everything you put in this video works. I never had to look down but I am now 70 years old and I think doing that move may help me win the next fight. A real big problem now days is
that People walk around with their eyes on their hand held devices and walk into trouble. The USMC teaches that you always keep your eyes up and moving.

I am a retired Master Sergeant USMC (Vietnam vet) and a retired police Motorcycle Sergeant. Semper Fi
Kathy long you are the best I only wish all women could protect themselves like you there would be a lot less less attacks and rape attempts low life’s would think twice before acting that’s for sure you are second to none thanks
Job well done!
Some would say that Kathy Long is not lady like; and with that I would have to adamantly disagree, I love a lady who knows how to not only look out for herself, but someone like her would be better backup than most big ugly guys I know who THINK they’re real badasses!
Excellent job! The element of surprise almost always works, just be quick and meaningful!!
She is one tough woman I was just wondering where she’s from I was wondering if she’s from Detroit Michigan . I knew a girl when I was a young boy more than a few years ago and her name was Kathy Long just wondering.
EXCELLENT!!!!
Very good and realistically able to done by real people moot just kick boxers. Believable.
Great move…
I like Kathy Long’s style and tactical approach to the problem!
excellent video especially the part about holding on to the groin.
Cool move thank you for another great tip
I am so impressed with this move, when you watch at the beginning Cathy looks a person,
who is to small to deal with this, when she moves in, and looks submissive, and moving closer…I shouted out, NO” YOUR TO CLOSE:”
BUT, THEN SHE ATTACKS…BRILLLAINT..DO YOU THINK I COULD DO THIS I AM 70..AND OVERWEIGHT.. SINCE I AM BEEN WHATCHING BOB, I AM NOW ON A PROPER WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMME, and am in a Rowing Course in my fifth week…Thank you for this life saving move. Regards Angela.
Thanks again for your lesson on self-defense,my wife and daughter really appreciate your self defense videos, they have learned a lot from them.
I’m impressed , but it would be alot harder for a man to get in that close , than a woman .
Excellent people very good!!
Nice move,very committed
Very impressive move.
Pull-Push-Sweep appears to be an “economical” method of starting an E&E. Kathy Long is a straight forward instructor and easy to follow.
Excellent!!!
Very impressive move! Kathy is very easy to follow on the instruction. Thank you, for sharing this!
This is a good move for the ladies. My girls need to know this they will have the tactical advantage. I’m not so sure about a man using this. But it’s great if the bad guy lets you in that close. Thanks for everything.
Element of surprise is key my wife loves it! She’s short but strong, but once you get pass the fear plenty of time to hightail it out of there! Great training! Good job people.
When unarmed, the neck-gab is what I’ve used, I understand release or cause permanent harm. Although in the marines we were taught a fight isn’t over until the opponent can no longer get up. I know a “kill em all” mentality can backfire big time, it almost did on me, but a buddy had my back. I did learn though. Thanks for reinforcing it.
