How To “Shed” An Attacker’s Punches

An Effective Defense

This shedding self-defense technique is a very simple block that will serve you well if your attacker manages to fire one off before you get a chance to strike first. Shedding is different than parrying techniques in its simplicity. While parrying can take months to master, shedding can be learned in a day or two.

How To Pick Locks. (Who Needs Keys?)

You may find this shocking, but picking open a standard "tumbler" lock, (like the one on your front door), is pretty damn easy when you know how it's done.

And in a "meltdown" survival situation, (once the smash-n-grab crowd has stolen everything not tied-down), the food and water and secure shelter will all be behind locked doors, (which explains why Special Forces are often trained in lock picking... and why they carry a set of lock pics with them).

It's a lot of fun learning this skill, (it doesn't take long)... and kinda nice to help out that buddy locked out of his house after the wife discovered what really happened on that "no money down" real estate seminar in Vegas.

Breaking It Down

The secret to this self-defense technique is taking the offensive right after his punch. Blocking won’t win a fight and you don’t want to be on the defensive any longer than you have to. To start, you want to move into your attacker as you throw your arm up to shed the punch.

By moving forward you are able to “take the weight off the punch.” This simply means that by moving in you prevent your attacker from completing his weight shift or even block the arm before it is fully extended.

Once you are in close you must go to work quickly using your knees, elbows, and whatever other self-defense tools you have at your disposal. There is no perfect follow up sequence. The best thing to do is to act quickly and attack high-value targets. You need to fire off strikes quickly so that your opponent doesn’t have time to figure out what is going on.

About Outside Shedding

The outside shedding technique shown at the end of the video is a bit more difficult to execute. Luckily most guys you may come up against on the street will be leading off with a right haymaker, not a straight punch.

You must be aware, however, that the inside shedding technique will not work for a straight punch.

The only real way to learn to predict what punch is coming to do some full speed training with proper protective gear where you don’t know what your partner is going to do.

  1. Your information is too the point and practical. As a victim of a personal attack, I am going to learn everything I can to ensure that I am equipped next time. I would like to have the equipment you dish out but as I said I was a victim not only of personal attack but also was hacked and financial cleaned out by hackers. I can therefore not afford your delivering cost to South Africa.
However, I would certainly in the future endeavor to promote your stuff on my blog
