My Wife Thinks I’m Crazy for Doing This…

Am I losing my mind?

Maybe… But I sure as hell never want to be caught without a knife. That’s why I recently started carrying two of them, every day. Why two knives you ask? Here are just a few reasons:

For Everyday Use

Pocket Knives

First, I use a knife every day for utility purposes. By carrying knives with different sizes and blade shapes it’s more likely that I will have a better tool for the job. I can also carry one knife that is my “beater” (The one I don’t hesitate to get muddy, sticky, or greasy).

For Self-Defense

Next, in a self-defense situation you never know if the knife kept on your dominant side will be inaccessible. Perhaps an attacker has you pinned against a wall, has control of your arm, etc.

Also, if forced to stab an attacker, it is very possible the knife will be difficult to recover, a grisly thought but it is a real problem (Muscles tend to clench around the blade). If there is a second attacker you’ll be glad you brought a backup.

Self-Defense Situation Number 3 (okay, my overactive imagination is probably the real reason my wife thinks I’m crazy): Carrying blades on different portions of the body can be an advantage if you are taken to the ground. This is a great reason to carry a boot knife. I can keep going with the self-defense scenarios but I think you get the point.

As a Survival Tool

A knife is also one of the two most critical survival tools we have (a fire source being the second). As the old saying goes “Two is one, and one is none.” You can expect that if the SHTF you’d immediately drop your one and only knife into a mud hole, or it would fall out of a pocket in the dark. A backup is just common sense.

Okay, you can see that there are a lot of good reasons to carry two knives. Even so, some people may question my logic by saying that if this were the case we may as well carry two of everything—two sets of keys, two wallets, two cell phones, etc.

Here’s the Thing

It’s possible for us to take preparation to such an extreme that it becomes impossible to lead a normal life. The difference, especially with knives, is the relative ease of carrying two. With so many knives on the market it is easy to find a backup that is inconspicuous, small, and comfortable. What I’m trying to say is that the downside is so small and the upside so large that it’s simply a no-brainer, at least for me.

How To Pick Locks. (Who Needs Keys?)

You may find this shocking, but picking open a standard "tumbler" lock, (like the one on your front door), is pretty damn easy when you know how it's done.

And in a "meltdown" survival situation, (once the smash-n-grab crowd has stolen everything not tied-down), the food and water and secure shelter will all be behind locked doors, (which explains why Special Forces are often trained in lock picking... and why they carry a set of lock pics with them).

It's a lot of fun learning this skill, (it doesn't take long)... and kinda nice to help out that buddy locked out of his house after the wife discovered what really happened on that "no money down" real estate seminar in Vegas.

So what do you think?

Am I the only one who carries two knives? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I have been for years on the farm too easy for an arm sleeve or loose piece of clothing to get in machinery and you need to cut yourself loose immedately . An since it can be either arm or leg , I carry two clip on knives one on either side and a boot knife in each shoe . I don’t stop there I have knives placed on key spots on all my equipment too . as well over the visor of every car and truck . Knives are just plain handy as a tool that I feel naked without one being a least arms length away . The movies and fanatsy tv shows may it look like a joke when a character is asked to disarm and they pile a small table with 15 or 30 knives of varying designs and sizes . But in truth I pay close attention to were these blades are placed on the body and try to assess if it is actually workable and if it is over the top dramatic affect . Most are just for show and besides there is a point where the weight becomes too much to be able to do anything . Maybe we are both crazy , the good knives are always in a go bag and on my belt clipped on in plain sight and easy access . The cheap ones are almost everywhere else , these I buy by the dozen at my local feed and supply for $1 apiece they are disposable and break easily but they get what I need done for every day stuff ; cutting hay bale strings or wrap on pallets and feed bags . I have a couple of hunting knives as well but they are specialty knives for gutting and skinning game . What your giving away is almost pure gold I could throw away all of my other knives ( but I won’t ) and use yours for all it . But again I need the blade within arms reach all the time and easy access all the time from whatever side just in case . Accidents do happen just as shit happens and those left live to talk are the ones whom are prepared for SHTF whatever it may be .

  2. To the team thank you for having me,I’m so willing to take up some survival tactics. I am 58 years old and wounded from wearing tear, I will be making an investment with the fightfast company, almost over the hardship due to Corona. Thank you for being here look forward to studying more life-saving tactics
    Max.

  3. Hey, I am totally with you on carrying two knives. I actually carry three myself. The one is marked “gas key”…not technically a knife. Another is a pin knife, the other a stiletto. I need to get a leg strap for a fourth…I think…a boot knife. He! He! He! I see there others on here who also carry multiple knives.

  4. I’m not familiar with the technique but I believe in it I have daughters I never beat them across the heads about doing things but self defense is a must. I believe the body can be a armored truck and the mind is the weapon. Once monies circulate again I will be a student I promise myself that.

  5. Awesome blog. I’ve been carrying multiple knives for years. I never leave home without my boot knife it saved my life and I’m sure the lives of my family a few years ago. A knife is the most valuable tool anyone could ever have.

  6. I love your site and blog! I have bought several items from you. I will continue to buy my knives and other products from you. THANK YOU! I found my slice of heaven within your site.

  7. Just a quick comment … I carry three knives at all times. Striker evac and a multi tool. Also in winter I carry my boot knife

  8. Your not alone brother I’m a firm believer that “ id rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it!

  9. I carry more. I’ve been a single woman for many years and I’ve done some dangerous jobs. I don’t go anywhere, including bed, without my knives. And I have a nice collection including bayonets and swords.

  10. I have bought 3 of your knifes and 2 training DVDs so far. My 1st was the striker, with very little practice I have become pretty fast of course the knife does most of the work. #2 was the jack I love this little baby be it’s awesome. And the 3rd was your 5in1. My wife has ordered me your straight razor, I can’t wait to get it. I will buy nothing from anyone else now that I found TRS
    Thank You
    John Rush

  11. This is really surreal! I was “thinking” about this very thing today and I promise I never said these thoughts out loud! But here’s the result of my thoughts coming to fruition! Lol! As I’m waiting for my “other” self defense items to come together I actually said to myself that I need more knives! And that’s after I just received the little Jack! That’s a tough little go everywhere keeper! But, that’s only two. I want more! I swear! I never said that out loud! Until right now, that is! So, yeah, call me a crazy grammie but I’m not about to be abused by any loony lefties! I want to make sure that they get the short end of the stick! Tell your wife that you belong to a special bunch who take personal safety seriously especially in these unsettling times! We must be well prepared to put this unrest in it’s place and hopefully it will be sooner rather than later! Regards, Still young going on 62 Grammie Sue

  12. I carry two to three knives all the time including a Clave. You never know when you may need them.

  13. As a Green Beret, carrying more than one knife frequently turned out to be a must. Not only for defense but each knife meets a different purpose. My Bug Out Bag contains numerous very functional knives and every one of them is frequently used and I know exactly where they are located. In addition I carry additional knives on my body in locations that are accessible in almost any situation. I have an easily accessible Combat Necklace on my Go Bag also just in case I don’t need to kill or maim an attacker but it will still cause irreparable damage if necessary.

  14. Absolutely not !!!! My name is Mike and I’ve been infatuated with knives since I was just old enough to hold one. My first night was a Daniel Boone pocket knife way to have a clear siding to it with Daniel Boone on the side of it with a raccoon hat on and everything. Now after that It was every where I went I wanted to knife fleamarket’s grandma can you me a knife ?come on please! And my grandma being full-blooded Portuguese from Azores islands she was like of course my angel !! Oh I had butterfly knifes so I’m and so forth . And I would carry as many knives as I could fit in my pockets as a kid . Right now at this time in my life I carry one knife around my neck which is absolutely doable I didn’t think it was gonna really work out but it’s liks anything you put on your body after 5 minutes you have already forgotten about it . But I always use it kinda like my clean knife . I am spoiled at work my boss is my best friend and I bring stuff to cook for lunch daily , left overs burgers hot dogs ! So me neck knife is my go to for cooking opening packages etc etc … then I have my Sog full tang with two finger holes and it’s the most used tool daily it clips right on the front of my belt it slides right out of the hard plastic case Idk what you call them but I’ve used the same knife for 10 15 years daily . I’m a house painter so I use it for everything best tool in my Arsenal. And now here’s where my survival OCD kicks into maybe overkill but here me out . So I have a quick Bloody Mary / stiletto (at least that’s what we called them as kids ) that was an after hours never allowed to have due to legalities and parental figures right now that I’m 43 years old I’m fully in love with it now . So that’s my holy €%^}%? Back pocket clipped on knife so I can just reach back a little and Bam 💥 Shazam ⚡️Right there in the action if need be . So we’ve got one neck knife for apples fruit opening packages blah blah ! Then my front belt clip on dog knife wich it it my tool of choice daily ! Then we have tha back pocket rocket where did that come from ? fast defensive !!! And most of the time I have my sailers Schrade Walden in my front pocket . Simply because of the knot untying net crocheting stabber arm on one side and just a regular old blade on the other which is a nice thin thin thin little blade that is just fantastic for all types of things carving cutting fruit again but mainly just little cutting strings or whatever you know I’m for the wife ! So yeah I’m pretty crazy then if you’re worried about caring two and I’m caring four . But you know I’ve never felt like I’m over caring again it goes along with putting stuff on your body that you forget about by the time you walk out the door. But yeah I am 100% with you but I think the more the merrier if you can deal with getting them all over you then go for it because they’re only going to Benefit your situation no matter what type situation you’re in you can reach anywhere on your body and find sharp metal . And that will always be a benefit in most if not all sticky situations in life . I will always have knifes on me at all four corners . Call me overkill or crazy but 9 times out of ten my problems or opportunities have been solved quickly with the flick of my hand . Knifes save people’s lifes everyday . Thanks for listening to my personal crazy knife addictions .

  15. Bob – I’m with you on this. I typically carry two of my three TRS knives. I always carry the 5-in-1 tactical knife because it’s a great, practical multi tool as well as a great weapon. Depending on my mood and where I’m going, I’ll either carry the karambit or the Striker. Oh, and I always keep my Jack multi tool on my keychain. When I’m on my boat in the Gulf, I carry a SEAL-type fixed blade tactical knife for general use as well as for defense against pirates!

  16. I have carried 2 knives for 34 years . I learned that from my grandfather as he always carried 2. He always said to always have a backup . It came to having 2nd blade 5 years ago that saved my life but my attacker did not make it. It’s a bad situation for anyone to have to go through but sometimes it comes down to survival and I never leave home without my 2 or sometimes 3 pieces of hardware.

  17. Thanks but I have this knife already. I have carried a knife my whole knife from pocket knife to hunting knife. Nothing can be worst than not having a knife when you need one. My pickup has at least one knife as well as my pocket 24/7. One of the most useful items I carry. My Dad was a tool and die maker and he would make me a knife when I was a kid. I just love a good knife Handy item to have.

  18. I am a 68 yr old female. I have always carried a knife since I was 10 years old. Most times I have more then one. As you have mentioned it is a highly valued tool and I couldn’t imagine being without one. I also have a knife collection of some 50 different knives that continues to grow with several of yours included. Years ago I was broke down in a bad area. A man tried to get into my locked car until I flashed my stiletto. He quickly disappeared. I started my son when he was very young and now he has started my two grand daughters, ages 7 and 8.

  19. I have been carrying two knives for over a decade. I always had the main utility knife and a smaller one for the lighter jobs. Now that I have a knife for self defense, I carry three knives. You can never carry too many… unless you have to pass through a metal detector.

  20. Well I don’t think your crazy . Because I myself carry 2 knives as well . For the very reason you stated “what is I drop or lose one when I need it the most”. Actually one time I had 3 but didn’t realize till later when I was going through my pockets . Even made me wonder if maybe I shouldn’t do it everyday . But I decided on just the two . Thank you for all you do for us members .

  21. Hello
I have beem so impress with all the items I have received from you. The “Axe”, the
“Patroit” knife, the mini “machete, on and on, over the years. Never have I ever been
disappointed with any of your products. Thank you so very much. My hope is that you
will be able to continue with other fine products. I carry three (3), of the items in my
car, not just for defense , but rather for show. Needless to say, others saw them and were
very impressed. I don’t show and tell to everyone, just those I can trust. I do ask if they
are interested, I do have an outstanding supplier of well make items.

  22. I carry a Hogue AX-305 everyday along with my CZ pistol. The blade I carry is multipurpose & it cuts or stabs what I need it too. I’m a disabled vet in a wheelchair & I WILL NOT become another statistic so I carry daily. Sometimes I do carry a backup blade in the form of my MicroTech.

  23. I have 50 some knifes. I carry 2 in my pack and 1 or 2 on me. I have a multitool for each pistol and rifle case. I carry a knife in both of my vehicles. My belt knife is a TRS GATOR and that is a bad assumption chopper!! The Queen of my collection is that huge knife that Crocodile Dundee carries. That is one PRETTY knife!! I have never felt the need to be armed. However…. in my old age I find comfort in carrying my …. CANE. …. ITS SHARP …. looks make me much more comfortable in my old age. I invite a mass murderer to walk past my subway seat. He might encounter a major personality conflict,!!!

  24. Most times I have about 5. Swiss Army Knife (Victorinox) in right front pocket, Gerber exchange a blade clipped to right front pocket, Small Swiss Army Knife on keychain in left front pocket, SOG multi tool on belt at left hip, and non-metal box cutter in cell phone case. I guess I may be more paranoid than you 🙂 although most serve their purpose only as specialty tools not defense items. For example having kids the small Swiss Army Knife with scissors and tweezers is the best thing to remove a splinter from a child’s finger and is great for shortening plastic straws for children when eating out. 🙂

  25. When a cop pulls me over for the way I drive. They always ask (Do you have any weapons on you?). It’s always (Yes Sir, right front pocket, I have a pocket knife). I always have a multi tool. I had a victornox for years, that was my favorite. the only time I don’t have one is when there not allowed, and even then I probably still have one. I’m new here and I think I’m gonna like it. I fell like I’m supposed to be here, and I never said that before. So thanks. Our wifes are probably right.

  26. I got to tell you Bob I love your site I’ve ordered numerous items from you and I love them all I as well have two of the throwing hatchets survival knives two enforcers and I’m proud to be a Hot List member so carry on my friends and I believe like you do and Civil War is just around the corner people are crazy out there and we have to stick together I’m in security and have been for quite a while I’m retired but I wasn’t done working all of those that believe in the US of a God bless Dennis Levasseur

  27. Like the movie Spirit(?) I carry eight of everything. Although I can’t imagine myself sleeping with one (laugh). I don’t know, I have to think to think about it. Never thought of it, besides a bat. I mean sleeping with one…(I sleep in a bunk.)

  28. No, you are not the only 1 carrying multiple knives! Just like you said, knives are highly versatile tools and defensive weapons. Knives are more conspicuous than a gun, quieter to. Just as lethal, when used properly. Just don’t take a knife to a gunfight…

  29. Slot of people KNOW I’m crazy!! I absolutely have Always Loved knives!!!
Sorry she feels that way…By the way I am 63 yr old women!

  30. Nope your not the only one that does !! I also care to knife myself. Never leave home without them !
I’m also a freaking nut when it comes to knifes! So don’t feel like the Lone Ranger. Peace out Randy

  31. I carry 4/5 depending
I carry a STRIKER on rhs pocket, SURVIVAL on lhs pocket, 2 cheaper work knives, 1 in each cargo pocket. The cheap knives are disposable for every day use around the homestead.
I do not use the defense knives foe every day use. If you need it, you want it SHARP.
I also carry a “bear claw” in my boot if i go out.
I carry a HOFFMAN RICHTER tac pen in my shirt pocket where a pen should be.
Carry a 9mm + 5 mags on a shoulder holster under a sleevless cotton jacket where i keep cell, debit cards and driver licence etc and wsllet, all in diff pockets. Pick pocket must work fir whatever he wants.
Then i have a multitool on my belt.

    Why?
You may be attacked and knocked off your feet, on the ground trying to avoid getting your head stomped you may be lying on your 9mm so need to get to something
Us in our 60’s now, altho still physically fit we are not as fast as we used to be nor as agile to recover balance, so there is a good chance we could end up on the ground.
Trained for these scenarios for many years.
Being distracted for a second could have you being run off your feet
To fire from the ground ir recover from there with knee problems and back problems is not a hop skip and a jump
A lit if not most seniors require both hands to recover from the ground
You may have to end the fight from that position before you can see to your wife or family

    And dont ask……

  32. Knives are a tool, Each knife has a purpose, unique design and material to effectively perform a task,

Carrying at least 2 minimum is ideal for daily purposes. one to open, pry, or cut. Other for protection or emergency.

  33. No its not usual for me to have concealed at least 4. Two 9 in. Italian switchblades and 2 karambit knives due to the fact you never know what situation you may find yourself in, my wife thinks I’m crazy also.

    E Long US Army
    RETIRED

  34. Got my two survival knives yesterday; love em. Gave my son one; now we both have 3. Thanks for the information and product, excellent.

  35. Typically I carry 4, 2 in each pocket! 2 pen knives and 2 tactical knives….I thought I had a sickness untill I read this blog, lol! Be safe guys!

  36. I carry at least two knives. Most of the time I carry four. My everyday one for opening boxes and cutting plastic wrap on pallets is clipped to my belt loop by a Paracord quick release strap with fire striker and compass built in. Other knives are in different pockets of my cargo pants or shorts. Never know when you may need one!

  37. I just about always (if my pants and belt are on) have at least two knives on me at all times. I carry a Striker folder EDC that opens when be I remove it from my pocket, a concealed knife in the buckle of my belt, a credit card knife in my wallet, and sometimes a ‘gentlemans knife’ of some type i my other pocket.
In between the front seat of my car I have a fixed blade, full tang, 5208 stainless, @7 blade” Defender Xtreme” knife with a sheath that I modified with straps that will fit on my leg.
In my emergency bag in the back seat (or trunk) is a Steel river full tang 5″blade with a belt shearh.

Also on the outside of my bug-out (camping) backpack is a Camillus @12″, full tang blunt tip Tonto shaped titanium blade with an 8″ alternate tooth saw blade on the heel. It also contains some throwing blades that I need hour of practice with, a fillet knife with sheath, and sharpening stones.

I know that I don’t have near the knife collection that you have but I think that I have most of my bases covered.
