My Wife Thinks I’m Crazy for Doing This…

Am I losing my mind?

Maybe… But I sure as hell never want to be caught without a knife. That’s why I recently started carrying two of them, every day. Why two knives you ask? Here are just a few reasons:

For Everyday Use

Pocket Knives

First, I use a knife every day for utility purposes. By carrying knives with different sizes and blade shapes it’s more likely that I will have a better tool for the job. I can also carry one knife that is my “beater” (The one I don’t hesitate to get muddy, sticky, or greasy).

For Self-Defense

Next, in a self-defense situation you never know if the knife kept on your dominant side will be inaccessible. Perhaps an attacker has you pinned against a wall, has control of your arm, etc.

Also, if forced to stab an attacker, it is very possible the knife will be difficult to recover, a grisly thought but it is a real problem (Muscles tend to clench around the blade). If there is a second attacker you’ll be glad you brought a backup.

Self-Defense Situation Number 3 (okay, my overactive imagination is probably the real reason my wife thinks I’m crazy): Carrying blades on different portions of the body can be an advantage if you are taken to the ground. This is a great reason to carry a boot knife. I can keep going with the self-defense scenarios but I think you get the point.

As a Survival Tool

A knife is also one of the two most critical survival tools we have (a fire source being the second). As the old saying goes “Two is one, and one is none.” You can expect that if the SHTF you’d immediately drop your one and only knife into a mud hole, or it would fall out of a pocket in the dark. A backup is just common sense.

Okay, you can see that there are a lot of good reasons to carry two knives. Even so, some people may question my logic by saying that if this were the case we may as well carry two of everything—two sets of keys, two wallets, two cell phones, etc.

Here’s the Thing

It’s possible for us to take preparation to such an extreme that it becomes impossible to lead a normal life. The difference, especially with knives, is the relative ease of carrying two. With so many knives on the market it is easy to find a backup that is inconspicuous, small, and comfortable. What I’m trying to say is that the downside is so small and the upside so large that it’s simply a no-brainer, at least for me.

So what do you think?

Am I the only one who carries two knives? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I keep knives hidden all around my house. I also sleep with knives under my pillow. I also have several stun gun flashlights, under my pillow, beside my bed and another within reach if I’m knocked to the ground. In my car also, I have both within quick reach. I’ve been called crazy also, but better safe than sorry.

  2. I can say you’re definitely not the only one to carry more than one. Hanging around bars ,and living in not so great neighborhoods, and work you were lucky if I didn’t have at least four or more at all times.

  3. Absolutely correct!
Two 3 3/4″ blade LinerLock Spring-Assisted Flippers for work/Protection, one 2″ Lockback for utility, One Mini Swiss for the scissors & tweezers & toothpick/probe.
Add a Belt Carried Fixed blade of your choice and you’re good for most needs.

  4. I think this is a great idea! It certainly rings clear to me thats why I constantly carry one. Its a fundamental tool since man has been able to utilized the tool. No body respects the man 100% of the time but they always respect the tool.

  5. Interesting article. I carry only one blade that is on my key chain. It looks like a Spartan warrior helmet but is actually a three pronged hand weapon. I also have a K-Bar and a scary looking machete in the house.
You have me thinking about carrying a second blade, possibly a boot knife.

    Thanks for the heads-up.

    BJ

  6. Hi Bob,
Yes, I love knives. I got your survival knife about 2 years ago. I paid shipping and that was all I paid. I love it so much that I bought your fire starter last year. Now I have your Striker knife. Keep up the good work of keeping us safe.

    Thank you,

    Vicki Hogan

  7. I carry two knives as well , utility on the left and a cold steel 6 inch trilight on the right, I feel naked without them

  8. I agree 💯 with everything you had in your blog. Lol actually, if your wife thinks you are crazy shed think I should have a permanent straight jacket. Currently I carry in my edc kit five knives. Three Benchmade a, one buck 112, and a cold steel luzon. You never know when the zombie apocalypse is gonna happen

  9. I have a few that I purchased from you but I miss out on the whip necklace I deleted the email by mistake and I’m waiting for that to come back around again but I have purchased 4-5 knives from you but everything that I purchased from you I like them very much even my jack multi tool

  10. Wives always think their husbands are crazy for stuff they do that’s a no brained. When I was a police officer and working in our country station I carried a fixed blade and a folding blade but when we had to go down town they wanted us to leave the larger blades behind , it seemed to scare people more 😎👍.

  11. Yes, I do carry 2 or more knives at all times when out of my house. My primary blade is an OOOLLLDDD Marine K-BAR that never leaves my side. Old habits are hard to break. Being an 79 years young Marine living way out in the country. My other knives are a KARAMBIT I learned how to use when in the CORP…My other knife is an old BUCK knife I inherited from my DAD years ago, GOD bless him. I also have a COOLER full of knives I have acquired over the years…. You never know what you can find at New Mexico gun shows and super great web sites like yours…ANY QUESTIONS?????

  12. I have purchased several knives. I have the striker which is a damn nice knife. I did have a problem with it screw up at the butt of the blade came loose and the locking mechanism would release. A little tightening it work fine. I bought several fangs. And all the presents were extremely appreciated . It is a solid strong knife. I also purchased four of the five in one survival knives. That is the one if I were stranded would want to be left with. All the flashlights work perfectly very strong very durable.

  13. I enjoyed the reading. Glad I’m not alone. And don’t worry, my wife thinks I’m crazy too!! Lol

  14. Nope! I alwas at least have two on me. Usually have two in my edc bag. I also sleep with atleast two within reach. Yes my wife does think iam nuts.
I have found that when wearing pants and useing a ankle holster with calf strap. It is pretty easy to conceal the titan knive.

  15. The last time I was stopped by a cop he kept pulling knives out of my pockets 4 in total & he found my nylon spike from fight fast stuck in the visor along with 2 machetes one stuck between the front seats & one in a backpack that also contained my fight fast throwing axes & two other throwing axes. Throughout the entire vehicle (consoles & such he located 3 more folding knives & 2 large fixed blade knives. He asked me if I was planning on running into trouble. I told him better safe than sorry. Another time a cop stopped me & saw one of those ww 2 wooden military ammo crates with the rope handles in the back of my van & searched it where he found 200 knives, piranhas, old timers, case, uncle Henry’s, ect. All topped with a British ww2 machete & a USA ww2 machete. Everyone thinks I’m crazy too. All I can say is they won’t think im so crazy the day that im prepared to defend my life or theirs. Not too mention, like you said I use my knives at least 4 times a day for utility purposes. Any man who claims to be a man uses one every day.of his life.right now my 2 go to knives are the Striker & the Fang fixed blade. Awesome knives.

  16. Bob keep your knife on your battle belt or vest in front easily accessible running perpendicular to your body easy grasp for your dominant hand. Haven’t had my vest on in some time hangs behind a closet door loaded with mags ready to go into battle
Also my knife is a dog dagger. If I were wanting to plunge a knife all the way through someone I’d carry my Randall fighter
Keep up the good work Bob and don’t forget your tomahawk my forefathers carries them for generations even if they were made of stone

  17. So I carry on me at the most is 5, one for stripping wire, the 2nd is a Swiss Army knife which has multiple uses,3rd and 4th are stilettos for quick cuts then a small buck 2 blade knife for anything left over

  18. I carry a minimum of two. Mine are the exact same as you stated. I have one I use for whatever the day presents, cutting twine to tie something to roof of my suv or opening the Amazon box. The other one is only intended for self defense. I also carry a couple in my briefcase and a boot knife when I wear my boots which is at least 5 days a week.

  19. 20. I carry a Swiss Army knife, a keychain knife, and a discreet fixed blade defensive knife, along with a terrific little flashlight. I also have knives all over our house.

  21. Shit I sleep with my machete in arms reach I also have 2 katana swords let’s jst say I have bout 100 knives throughout my house all together & that’s not including my meat cleaver & my other home made sword plus thus long ass flat tip screwdriver so I’m pretty much ready jst in case…besides I’ve been here 21 yrs & never been bothered but like the saying goes never say never.. I’d love to have a real switch blade where u push a button & the blade cones out the end of the knife. & I’d live to have a sweet butterfly knife..

  22. I love your knive’s, I have purchased 4 of them . I have one in my purse, 1 under my pillow, 1 on my key chain. I also have MACE (2) and (3) STUN GUNS. My son has collected just about every size & shape knife known to man ! But, he had never heard of FightFast. I gave him one of my survival knives and he carries it on his belt. THANK YOU FOR PROVIDING GOOD QUALITY PRODUCTS.

  23. No you’re not crazy! I do the same thing I have one I use for screwdriver cleaning my nails how are used to jumpstart a car once because cable didn’t reach and I always keep the second one because you never know what you’re gonna need it for, I actually had to use it to recover the first one one time when I dropped it down into a crevice in the car body I had to use the second one to reach down in and pull the first one out.

  24. I am retired and lead a simple life but these times life is not simple anymore. I like the idea of carrying 2 knives but it’s hard to carry in your pocket and expect the unexpected and I don’t wear boots anymore so a boot knife is out of the question but I would like know how to carry 2 knives just because like you said better safe than sorry. I want something to release quick and be sharp as a razor and incase something should happen in a struggle I would want a backup handy but know where to keep it. Such a Delima. Any recommendations would help and possibly you should have such knives available.

  25. I fully agree with carrying 2 knives. I usually carry 3. 2 folders in my pockets and a fixed blade neck knife. You can never be over prepared.

  26. I carry a Striker clipped on my right pocket and a Gerber box knife in my left pocket every day.

  27. I usually carry just a pocketknife for general purposes. It seems like it’s more difficult to carry a larger fixed blade. For one thing, it’s hard to conceal. It’s also hard to carry multiple bades on your belt. Any suggestions?

  28. My wife doesn’t think I’m crazy. Actually she feels safer because she knows every time we go shopping … I am carrying at least one of my knives just in case a parking lot incident occurs. Plus, she knows why when I am working on my computer (no matter what time of the day or night) I have a machete and a back up dagger under my desk in case some idiot decides to break in our home thru a window or by kicking in a door. I feel that a knife and “situation awareness” are key elements in staying safe.

  29. Im a senior citizen lady and a retired USAF officer and have knives with me since my early twenties. wouldn’t be caught without one or two. I have quite a few knives I’ve bought and a number that my father left me. I really love them. keep them out all over the house and am always looking for more.

  30. No, you know there are a lot of people that carry more than one knife. I’m a Line Cook, I not only take a knifebag full of knives to work everyday, but I carry a Box cutter, a Leatherman multi tool, a double edged balanced neck knife, and a TRS Scorpion. The reason why is I don’t carry a 12″ knife when I step off the line to get something out of the freezer; but by the time I get back to the line, I can have it open and ready to use, but a lrg knife isn’t practical to walk around a kitchen with.

  31. I, too, love knives. I’ve bought several from you, including the machete and Fang, as well as others from another website. I carry a Swiss Army knife and have the rest hidden around the house and car. I also have a Harbor Freight Pit Bull in the car at my boyfriend’s insistance. You just can never be too prepared.
I love your products and appreciate the many self-defense tips. Thanks for including me on your list!

  32. Hi.well for years I have a knife of dome sort with me at sll times.i also have three fixed blade knifes and one of them came from you good folks.i like to carry to of them for one is just a heavy blade hunting knife.iy is a big one so s wimp hates that look of it.i also carry a small one that is s skining knife.do I tell them if they get courious that one can kill them then with the other I skin them.sometimes alive.msn they blanch when I say that.

  33. I work as a security officer. And would love to get a dozen of these for my offices I work with. But I can’t not afford it.

  34. My friends all know I always carry “2 in the boot and 1 in the bra.”
I live out on the water and recently my boat sank, so i have also lost my home. Along with all of my knives.
I would love to start my new collection with your great quick drawing and tactical beauties.

  35. I have bought most of what you have offered. I am retired now so I have dialed back on the purchasing of knives. I went bonkers before retiring at 44. My favorite are microtech and they are not cheap. The halo models are basically the “holy grail” of knives. I have one. Thanks for your products, as I have bought a lot from you.
