Last Resort Knife Sharpening Hack

Easily Sharpen Your Knife Anywhere

I’ve got a real quick knife sharping tip for you. Many times you need to touch up the edge on your knife when you aren’t at home and don’t have quick access to a sharpening stone. In those situations, the rounded edge on a car window can actually do a pretty darn good job. Check it out below:

Easy, Huh?

As you saw in the video, this actually works pretty well. Don’t use this technique on a knife with a big burr or chip in the blade because it could scratch the window. But if the edge is simply dulled and needs some slight honing, this does the trick and it’s a lot better than using a concrete sidewalk (that works too but much riskier for your knife).

I hope you enjoyed the tip! If this helped you, let me know by dropping a comment down below.

  1. Heck I’ve known about it for years I know that makes me sound like a 61 year old know it all but it’s a good technique and it does work

  2. Bravo! Good info! I never would have thought about using my window. I have used my whetstones and then my leather belt. Now this is worth saving in my bookmarks!

  3. Cool, who’d a thunk. Great tip thanks
If you have jeans on sometimes it works.
If it works for razor blades why not a knife blade?

  4. I remembered that you can also do that on a glass bottle too! But, unless you can find a Starbuck’s coffee bottle just lying around how many people bottle their products in glass bottles now?

  5. Its illegal to carry a blade in England and police have developed a “wand” which can detect metal and will immediately stop and search. More power to them!

  6. Great info.
I have used many items to sharpen various types of knives , daggers , machete , chissels since I was 10 yrs old. I use files and stones on very dull knives and work up to glass , ceramics , I have used leather stroop .

I like to get a blade I can shave with. A lot depends on the angle. A lot depends on what material byour cutting , some things require you ho the blade every 15 or 20 cuts.

A lot depends on the type of steel and it’s hardness for a knife to get sharp and hold it’s edge.
A dull knife Is more dangerous than a sharp knife.

Thank you gentlemen , Jerry Leskovec

  7. Very interesting have not resorted to using a car window to sharpen or clean up the edge of knife will withhold judgment until I try. Mike.

  9. I’m now 65 yrs. old & I can remember my Grandfather teaching me all kinds of hacks. But here’s the thing. I was a child and I don’t remember all of wwhat he told me, so for me this was like a refresher course with Grandpa! I just LOVED IT. Made me think about other things that he taught me. Wonderful Video! Thank You so much.

  10. Very nice tip, also hear you can use the porcelain mug bottom edge to sharpen scissors and might work on a knife. Either way thank you for the information.

  11. I’m 76 and I remember my grandad showing me how to this and on the bottom of a coffee cup also. Have a ceramic sharpening tool in my bug out bag. Have take the scout troop out for there, “Wilderness Survival Merit badge,” works really well on knives and hand axes.

  12. Thanks, I really enjoyed that video! Who knew?! I haven’t tried it yet but I will! This is a great “secret” trick I doubt any of my friends know about…yet. Once I have this down pat, I want to watch them freak out, screaming “OMG you’re going to break the window!” and things like that. Yeah, we’re actually a bunch of knife loving girls so we say things like that! LOL

  13. Thank you for the good tip. I never thought about it do to I’ve always had something with me to sharpening a blade. I realize there could be times I could need to sharpen and not have anything to do it with. This information just adds to my list of usable emergency skills.
