  2. Good article to ponder. Being an adult leader with the boy scouts for the past 35 yrs. I’ve taught several boys wilderness survival techniques. I agree with what you said about the old adage. Hope for the best but plan for the worse. That way no matter what happens you’ll be prepared. I’ve had people hassle me about carrying a hatchet, 12″ Bowie knife ( I call it my camp knife) paracord ,a couple tarps , water purification pump, and at least 4 different means of fire starting methods in my truck at all times. I just look at them and smile as I’m telling them you aught to see what I bring along for survival kit. This is just the bare everyday essentials.
Keep up with the Good work.

  3. I was stranded in Florida thirty nine years ago after using bad judgement and buying an old bus. I offered my Maverick Ford car for trade if he would repair all the mechanical problems. He agreed, if I first signed my title of my car over to him. Not much was repaired. I was parked on a past hurricane hit gas station. I was stranded for about 8 mons..I was lucky, however, because I got a job at summer recreation for little kids. Set up events, solar demonstrations, fire department demos, then EMT demos for the kids. Still using the bus for only local transportation and the beach where I lived. I then started EMT training though CETA. Went to college, was an EMT as I was earning my EMT certification. All living in the bus. Still living a disaster situation. Finished getting my certification, then the CETA program ended. Leaving me in a deaper disaster situation. Living in that dang bus. I eventually got home to Illinois with my brothers help. Still living a lower level disaster. So I know about disasters. Took advantage of opportunities as as they came up. Yes, it was living in a disaster, nonetheless. Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts when I was young had to help more than I realized.

  5. I waited in the UK armed forces for quite a few years so I already know about survival, escape and evasion, hunting for food, food stocking and so forth.
I am always open to new tips and suggestions and that is why I have signed up to your super site.

  6. Very excellent advise for anyone; well written and very easy to understand and be useful to all. it may even save someone’s life someday. you can NEVER be too well prepared.

  7. Bob,
You are very correct that survival training is necessary, only not just for big disasters that we hope never happen. Here’s an example; We live check to check (sometimes it stretches all the way, sometimes not). Last weekend we ran out of food, yes I could have gone hunting, but there are reasons it’s better not to (for food). Anyway, I could see my wife beginning to panic-always a bad thing to do. I went into my “survival food,” the garden isn’t quite ready yet. I’ll have to replenish it, but we’re okay.

I offer a “survival training on less than a shoestring,” most of the gear isn’t really necessary and some that they don’t offer is. The main 3 things are 1. Water-they say you need a gallon a day. Personally, I never remember drinking that much. Three days without water and your body lets you know that it doesn’t like being dehydrated. 2. Food-your body will start burning your muscles after a few days. Shelter and warmth-I think these speak for themselves.

  8. I appreciate what you’ve posted here – if only I could get my wife to read this and get on board with me! How can I possibly convey to her the necessity of having this kind of knowledge?

  9. True story. In today’s world, anything can happen at any time. Bad things happen to people everyday. And remember, I’d rather have it & not need it, than need it & not have it.

  10. I am very interested in survival training, and would actually like to open a survival training course here where I live, Ruidoso New Mexico. This is a mountainous region and people are constantly getting lost and sometimes They get themselves in very dangerous situations, life-threatening situations.
I was a lifeguard at Myrtle Beach for four years so I know the necessity of training. I was also A bouncer for nine years. So yes, I get it on the training part, would just like to learn more.
    What do you suggest…

  11. Always looking for elite ways of evasion and survival. With 7 years of special ops under my belt, you can never learn too much . The rules of survival are constantly changeing . Glad to be new member. Look forward to sharing ideas with fellow patriots .

  12. I have only been following your website for a short time but enjoy every email I get. Informative, wide ranging, logical, simple but effective. There is no crap involved…do it this way, and practice and the results will be worth the effort.
I have bought a knife from you and I know I will buy other stuff but for now I just read the emails and wonder how I survived to the ripe old age of 66.
I so wish I would of had some of this info years ago. Never too late. LoL.
    Thanks and keep it up.
    Joe

  13. With all the survival training I have had in the past, through Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Military survival school,& Reenactments from pre 1760’s. Which in fact wasn’t as much as it sounds;. I didn’t have this portable water filter. I love how it was clarified to boil the water to avoid Virus. Of course in a hurry it most likely won’t be a problem to filter from a stream and drink. Also, Can Hydrogen peroxide be used to flush your tube and filters in order to extend the life of the filters? Thanks,. Gerard Zillen

  14. I think everyone should get some type of survival training. You never know when you might need it. I am a reserve officer with the Maryland National Resources Police. I just completed a search and rescue course with the Department of Homeland Security and learned some AWESOME survival techniques as well.
